After a successful resurrection of the Ninja Gaiden series on the Xbox (which then led to multiple revisions), Tomonobu Itagaki brings the series full force onto the next generation hardware. While not revolutionary or a massive leap forward, Gaiden II is gooey, bloody fun when it’s not annihilating the player.

After mentioning last month that Ninja Gaiden II could be his last entry in the series, today news came along via 1UP.com that confirmed it as director Tomonobu Itagaki will leave his post at Team Ninja on July 1. Stunning gamers in 2004, Tomonobu Itagaki’s take on Ninja Gaiden sold 1.5 million copies (in conjuction with the sales of Ninja Gaiden Black). That spurred a sequel, now exclusive to the Xbox 360. However, many will be disappointed to know this will be Itagaki’s final game in the series.
