Search engine giant Google has made it clearly known over the last few years that they’d like to be involved in many types of advertising. From deals with rival Yahoo! to integrating video ads into your favorite YouTube clips, they’re everywhere. One noticable omission to their ad profile is in-game advertising, and and if a recent VentureBeat report is true, that might not be long from reality either:
“Sources close to the matter said that the company has developed an in-game advertising technology that allows it to insert video ads into games. In demos of the technology, a game character can introduce a video ad, saying something like, “And now, a word from our sponsor,” before showing a short video at the end of a sequence in a game. Since testing has been going on for some time, Google could launch the technology fairly quickly, if it so chooses.”
If true, Google would be one of many companies in this field and would join the likes of Microsoft’s Massive, Double Fusion, IGA Worldwide, and MochiMedia. Analysts suggest the market will be worth $971.3 million by 2011.
