GameStop announced this morning that they have agreed to purchase independent New Zealand game retailer The Gamesman. Once the deal is completed, the eight stores will be converted to the GameStop EB/Games brand and expand the chain’s presence in the area to 38 stores, adding up to 308 for the entire Austrailia/New Zealand area.
“We are very excited about the union of EB Games and Gamesman. Both companies and their staff have a passion for games and now we can bring together the best of both retailers to offer our customers the finest in service and products, both new and pre-owned.” - Stephen Wilson, Managing Director of EB Games in New Zealand.
“We would like to thank our customers and staff for their support. This move will enhance the service and experience for customers, and our staff will benefit from the support structure and career opportunities available through GameStop.” - Phil McPhee, General Manager of The Gamesman.
The deal is scheduled to be done by the middle of the month, pending satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
