While you’ll usually hear that the game industry trumps the movie industry in revenue, that’s usually not true. While box office dollars may not match up the game industry (and with $10 tickets as opposed to $60 games, that’s not really a surprise), adding in other forms of movie media always caused film to take the lead.

Slowly however, that may be changing. The EMA’s annual report states the MPAA’s record box office of $9.6 billion is still trumped by video games, which hauled in double that at $18.5 billion. The gaming industry also took over DVD sales on their own, which accounted for $16 billion for the film industry.
