If you haven’t updated your PS3 today, then consider yourself lucky. Many users who upgraded in anticipation of trophies and in-game XMB has experienced issues with their systems booting up. Users on the US PlayStation forums tell the sad tale they’re experiencing in a 53 page thread. Sony has since pulled the update from their server, and you attempt the update, you’ll be told you’re already running the latest version. Sony has stated they’re aware of the problem and are looking into it, though what else would they be doing?
