Sony Computer Entertainment will be launching a movie download service this summer for the PlayStation 3 in the the United States, according to a report today from the Associated Press.
Confirmed by Kaz Hirai, the service, which will join the likes of Netflix and Xbox Live’s movie downloads service, will also come to Europe and Japan at later dates. Details on the service also won’t be known until next month at the E3 2008 press conferences.
“Please expect more from our evolving PlayStation business,” Hirai told reporters at the company’s Tokyo headquarters.
Regarding the actual system, Hirai said he believes they will get stronger and cut cost to reach profitablity with their gaming business by the end of fiscal March 2009.
