Seven people are dead after a stabbing spree in the Akihabara district of Tokyo, Japan, according to a report this morning by the Associated Press.
Claiming he was “tired of life”, 25-year old Tomohiro Kato drove a rented truck into the popular video game district and, via public broadcaster NHK, ran over three people. He then subsequently got out of the car, began stabbing the people he’d ran over, and afterwards continued on to various onlookers of the scene.
“The suspect told police that he came to Akihabara to kill people,” said Jiro Akaogi, a spokesman for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. “He said he was tired of life. He said he was sick of everything.”
Kato dropped the knife after a threat to shoot by the police, said an unidentified witness to NHK. 17 ambulances were rushed to the scene, and 10 other people were wounded.
Amatuer video of the event was also shot at the scene and, as most things do nowadays, has already popped up on YouTube. The video can be seen at the jump, but I can’t stress enough that viewer discretion is advised.
