Despite not even being up for a year to this point, Turner Broadcasting System has decided to terminate GameTap’s editoral and video branches. In doing so, staff from both branches have been laid off.

“We have had a lot of successes over the last year and the move to the web has been a good one for us,” says Rick Sanchez, Vice President of content. “While we have been very happy with the work done by our editorial and video teams, we’ve made a decision to focus the business on our biggest strength, which is our game catalog. As a result, we will be restructuring the site to focus exclusively on gameplay.”

What makes this story a bit more significant are the numerous notable names on the staff that are being let go. Former IGN Xbox EIC Doug Perry, former Official PlayStation Magazine editor Dana Jongewaard, former GamePro editor Wes Nihei, and former GameSpot editor Alex Navarro (who recently left for a job at Harmonix).
