Fans wondering what will happen to the Metal Gear series following the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots got a bit of relief today, as associate producer Ryan Payton confirmed in an interview with MTV Multiplayer that the series will continue in some fashion after the current iteration.
“I think there’s been some misconceptions that this is the last ‘Metal Gear,’” said Payton. “This is really just the last chapter of the saga of the Solid Snake story.”
“[Solid Snake] was a burden [for Kojima] because of all those loose ends,” said Payton. “So when you play “Metal Gear Solid 4″ and when you get to the end, I think you’re going to feel that ‘wow, this is a nice closure.’ All of the weird stuff that’s gone on in the past, it’s all coming to an end. All those weird questions — everything is answered.”
There’s already a bit of speculation as to what direction the series will go. Last week at Konami’s press conference, a phone conversation in the style of the game’s endings was presented to members of the press:
By the way, what should we do about “The Project”?
Yes, that’s correct.
That man has fallen.
It’s about the sequel.
